June 18, 2007 - Before running in the Lucas Oil ASA Modified Series, Jason Patison was a full time Super Late Model driver at Irwindale Speedway. Midway through the 2007 season he was given the opportunity to return to the well known NASCAR track. “Darrel Wong and Speed Wong Racing have an awesome program and they have been nice enough to let me drive one of their cars for a few races this year,” Patison explained during a pre-race interview.
Jason struggled with a loose car in qualifying, turning in a time good for the 15th starting position for the 75 lap main event. The Speed Wong team made some adjustments to tighten the car up and when the green flag dropped Jason and his #21 machine were on the move. The car was on the loose side for most of the race but that enabled it to rotate well around the bottom groove and easily pass cars that were pushing up the track. After several cautions a green-white-checkered finish was implemented on lap 67 due to time curfew restraints. Jason, running third at the time, lost a spot to David Beat on the restart and brought the Speed Wong racecar home in 4th place. “I am excited to finish in the top five and bring the car home in one piece, I want to thank Speed Wong for giving me this opportunity and I hope that I can driver for them again in the future.”
The race was taped to be aired on the Versus network, for more details on airtime visit www.lucasoil.com
