Patison Sets Track Record and Wins Series Finale

Jason Patison and team traveled to I-10 Speedway in Blythe, CA for the 2007 Lucas Oil ASA Modified series finale.  Patison’s crew chief Steve Teets made some set-up changes for this event and it paid off, the number 80 machine circled the track at a time of 14.74, a new track record!  During the driver’s meeting Patison rolled a 6, putting him on the outside of row 3 for the 75 lap main event.

There was a sell-out crowd on hand for this series finale and they were not disappointed, what ensued was the most exciting Lucas Oil Modified race of the year.  After a caution flag on lap 2 the field lined up single file for the restart.  Over the next 15 laps Patison picked off the top-5 cars one by one until running down leader Danny Gay.  From then on it was an intense battle for the lead.  Patison and Gay swapped the lead several times over the next 40 laps with Patison navigating around the outside of Danny Gay to take the lead for good on lap 65.  After a few more cautions Patison crossed the finish line 6 car lengths ahead of Gay, with Jimmy Dickerson, Chris Gerchman and Billy Johanek rounding out the top-5.

Patison finished the season 2nd place in points with 4 poles, 5 wins and 7 top five finishes in the 9 race series.  A DNF at Orange Show cost Patison the championship but he was still pleased with the season.  “We had a great year, the team worked hard at every event and even though we didn’t win the championship we won a lot of races and had a lot of fun!”
